How to Update Multifactor in Office 365

When setting up user's desktops/laptops/user accounts, we sometimes have to use our desk phones to complete some Microsoft verifications.

You may run into an instance where you need to re-verify your Microsoft account, but you can never receive a phone call/email.

If your phone number is 9378652813, 9378652812, 9378652879 or a number that is not your phone number (desk or mobile). Let IT know (servicedesk@unitedwheels.com)

Add Contact Method

Here is how you would add your contact info in your Microsoft Account...

1. Go to https://outlook.office.com.

2. Go to SharePoint/Outlook online/etc. Click on your name in the upper right hand corner and then select the View Account option...

3. Click On the Security Info block...

5. You can Delete existing/incorrect method(s)…or you can Add method.

7. In the dropdown, click the Office phone or Alternate phone options and click the OK button. I would recommend the Alternate phone and input your mobile phone because you may not be at your desk when you are trying to complete the verification/reverification process.

9. Select the appropriate country code and input your phone number in the next window, click the Next button...

10. Microsoft will then call the number to verify, the calling phone number is typically 1-855-330-8653...

11. If you pick up the call, press the # key and it will complete the process, click the Done button...

Notes:

Microsoft Authenticator app: If you download the Microsoft Authenticator app to your smart phone, you will have 6-digit code, notification and text message options.

Mobile Phone: If you put in a mobile phone you have options to receive text message notifications.

If you want to set up/use the Microsoft Authenticator app, here are Microsoft's instructions...

1.       The first step would be for YOU to download the app to your mobile device in the Apple App Store on Android Play Store.

Update Contact Method

1. To update a phone number or email, click on the change button...

2. Just like adding a phone number/email, you would just update the corresponding info...

3. Phone numbers will call the phone and require # to verify, emails would send a 6 digit code require you to input into this prompt...

4. Once verified, it is all set...
